Quarterly Progress Report
Mukti Kishalaya Support School · April–July 2026
Activities and tasks undertaken
1. Teachers orientation
On 16 May 2026, Mukti Urban Project organized an orientation programme for teachers involved in project implementation.
The session commenced with an overview of the project followed by interactive activities facilitated by Ms. Ananya Chatterjee, Programme Manager. Discussions focused on classroom management, inclusive participation, effective listening and observation skills, and methods for assessing children’s understanding.
Teachers were introduced to activity-based learning approaches such as “Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down” to assess learning levels in an engaging manner. The orientation also covered STEM education, pronunciation techniques, joyful learning methodologies, and strategies for improving student engagement. The programme concluded with positive feedback from participants.
2. Day celebrations: World Environment Day
World Environment Day was celebrated with children, youth, and mothers associated with the Skill Development Project, Mukti Support School (MSS), and Mukti Kishalaya Support School (MKSS).
Activities conducted across various Service Delivery Points included drawing competitions, awareness sessions, and creative exercises using recycled materials. Participants learned about environmental conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable living practices, with particular emphasis on the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R).
The celebrations inspired participants to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
3. International Yoga Day
Mukti Urban Project celebrated International Yoga Day with students and teachers to promote holistic well-being. The event included yoga postures, breathing exercises, and mindfulness activities aimed at improving physical fitness, mental well-being, and emotional resilience. The celebration reinforced the project’s commitment to nurturing healthy and balanced lifestyles among children and youth.
4. Caregiver meetings
Recognizing the critical role of families in children’s development, the project initiated regular caregiver meetings to strengthen community participation and ownership. Meetings were conducted in various localities including Marquas Square, Simla Street, Raja Dinendra Street, Raja Bazar, and Singhee Bagan. Discussions covered health and hygiene, school retention, emotional well-being, adolescent needs, cyber safety, and financial literacy. During this period 18 community parents meetings were held, with average participation of 18 to 25 people in each meeting.
These interactions have significantly strengthened relationships with families and improved participation in project activities.
5. Donor visit
Liyo Shiga from the Mukti Switzerland Team visited India on 25 June to observe MKSS schools and centres supported by Mukti Switzerland. She spent one month in Kolkata and during her stay interacted with the team, visited urban and rural centres, and met MKSS teachers and students. Liyo was impressed by the passion of community teachers working with children from slums and participated in various class activities. To encourage students, she distributed drawing kits and engaged with them in fun learning sessions. The visit highlighted the dedication of the MKSS team and the impact of their work in the community.
Difficulties faced
- Irregular attendance due to adverse weather conditions, particularly during the rainy season.
- In many cases, class timing clashes with school tuition and other extracurricular activities.
- Poor club infrastructure causing water seepage in the classroom during the monsoon, which is hampering MKSS class execution.

- Regular follow-up and home visits are essential to ensure sustained participation.
- Community-based remedial support is necessary to address varying learning levels among children.
- Periodic reflection meetings with trainers help improve session quality.
- Integrating extracurricular activities enhances children’s engagement and attention span.
- Recognition and appreciation mechanisms motivate participants and improve retention.
- Strong engagement with families and communities significantly improves programme participation.
- Collaboration with local stakeholders creates a supportive environment for smooth implementation.
